Down Stage Write present five seasonally spooky tales with a modern digital twist.

This Christmas we can’t gather together around a fire to tell ghost stories, so we’re inviting you to join us in a whatsapp group for an hour guaranteed to chill and entertain.

A GHOSTING STORY BY MICH SANDERSON

Mich is a playwright and theatre practitioner from Totnes, whose work has been staged across the South West and London. They are a founding member of Run Like Stags theatre co, and a Theatre Royal Plymouth associate artist as part of the Egg Box. Their work is generally queer and grimy.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH BY SAM PARKER

Sam is a Playwright and Theatre Practitioner based in the South West. A co-founding member of the Narwhal Ensemble, Sam has read for the Finborough Theatre, been a member of the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, and is currently working on his first seed commission for Theatre Royal Plymouth.

CHAT KILL YOU by laura horton

Laura is a writer and publicist. Plays include: Giddy Tuppy, The Space, ONCOMM Winner; Bloody Men, Arcola Theatre; A Summer of Birds, Plymouth Fringe, Toast of The Fringe Winner. She was longlisted for ETPEP Award for her play Labyrinth Diet and Out of Joint's Stockroom. Laura is currently running a creative campaign, Theatre Stories, to amplify un-heard voices in theatre. She has written journalistically for The Guardian, The i and Huffington Post. Laura is the incoming Plymouth Laureate of Words for 2021-22.

THE CAROL OF ERICH ZANN BY ALEX ROBINS

Alex is a South West based writer, director and performer. He is a founding member of the Narwhal Ensemble (Whey Down South, 2021: A Cornish Space Odyssey), a company who recently toured to the Theatre Royal Drum stage as Lab Associates.

He is also part of the new Eggbox playwright development project at the Theatre Royal Plymouth and undertaking an MA in Creative Writing at Exeter University.

His last play (Fireworks) was ACE funded and toured Devon and Cornwall before a run at VAULT Festival, supported by TRP and Down Stage Write.

‘THE CAROL OF ERICH ZANN’ PERFORMED BY SAMATER AHMED

Graduating from The Wheel in 2019, Samater has been involved in a host of performances since his inception into the professional industry, working with Beyond Face since 2018 with Who’s Looking Back At You? To the We Are Here festival hosted by Beyond Face in February 2020, Samater is now busy working with Box Clever on a national school’s tour of Macbeth, starting early 2021.

Richard has been a professional actor and voice artist for over 30 years and worked in all genre of the business through theatre, TV, radio and film. He’s lived in Cornwall for 14 years.

TV/Film credits include Doc Martin, Silk, Emmerdale, Casualty, Caring for the recently Deceased, Killing me Softly and Fisherman’s Friends

THE REUNION by jon nash

Jon is a playwright and theatre director based in the south west. He's the joint Artistic Director of Down Stage Write theatre company. Recent writing credits include: 'The Spice Box' and 'Rope Walks' (Plymouth Museum/Barbican Theatre, 'Why Would You?' (Next Steps South West), 'Snarl' (Plymouth Conservatoire), 'Running Out' (Untamed Theatre). He is currently writing a seed commission for Theatre Royal Plymouth and a Compact Commission for Exeter City of Literature.

‘THE REUNION’ PERFORMED BY SAM HUNTER

Sam Hunter is an actor based in the South West UK. Having graduated from Plymouth Conservatoire with an Honours degree in Acting in 2019, Sam has previously been worked with Downstage for 'I Think I'd Explode' at IntoBodmin and an audio adaptation of the same for the Causley Trust Festival 2020. He has also worked with MED Theatre in 'The Murder of Nicholas Radford' and loves collaborating with local companies for a variety of projects.

‘THE REUNION’ DIRECTED BY RYAN WILCE

Ryan is a South-West based Theatre Practitioner and Director. Ryan’s recent directing credits include ‘Straight Out Of The Training Ground’ & ‘Ginger Jones and The Sultans Eye’ for Theatre Royal Plymouth, ‘Centenary Buffet’ for Down Stage Write. As Assistant Director on ‘SNARL’ for Plymouth Conservatoire. Ryan also supports other artists and companies to deliver their projects, recently working as Production Manager for ‘On Behalf of a Madman’ at the Maltings Theatre and ‘Bread and Circuses’ at The Cockpit Theatre and Playground Theatre. Ryan is passionate about developing new writing and bringing innovative and accessible stories to the South-West.
