DOWN STAGE WRITE

Down Stage Write is a theatre company dedicated to creating development and production opportunities for playwrights in Devon and Cornwall.

We do that through workshops, script development and projects that bring new writing to audiences across the region and further afield.

If you are passionate about new writing too, we want to hear from you!

We believe:

·       Writing can be a lonely activity and writers best thrive when able to network with and learn from their peers.

·       That writers, directors and actors who are interested in new writing have a good deal to offer and to learn from each other.

·       That as theatres close, scale back literary departments or limit new writing support in the current funding climate there is a gap in Devon and Cornwall for this kind of development work that is essential for securing future plays from the unique voices this region has to offer.

·       That the work we support will be authentically connected to and rooted in the region but not limited to being ‘Devon and Cornwall stories’

·       That good writing and theatre requires diverse and interesting voices and that our work must aim to be inclusive and accessible, promoting in particular working class, BAME and lgbt voices.

·       That writers should be paid for their work. Even in circumstances where we are low on funding or self funding/profit sharing, we will ensure writers receive payment/expenses.
