WRITE OUT LOUD!

LGBTQ+ WRITERS PROJECT

Write Out Loud supports and develops LGBTQ+ writers based in Devon and Cornwall who are interested in writing for performance and other media.

From complete beginners to the more experienced, we want to work with you to develop a piece of writing for performance.

The story so far…

WRITE OUT LOUD 2021

The group of eight selected writers Sam Huxter, Leah Ingall, Jaime Lock, Robin Oliver, Fynn Roberts, Mich Sanderson Samantha Tossu, met for 8 workshop sessions to develop ideas and write in a supportive environment.

There were guest workshops and sessions with LGBTQ+ Artists and Historians including: Alan Butler (LGBTQ+ Historian/Pride in Plymouth), Dizraeli (Rapper and Spoken Word Artist), Jen Silverman (US Playwright), Natalie McGrath (Playwright), Ash Kotak (Theatre Maker, Activist) and Tabby Lamb (Writer/Performer).

Extracts of the writing created during the project were performed by professional actors at Pride events in the summer including Newquay Pride.

This project is supported by Pride In Plymouth, Barbican Theatre Plymouth and Arts Council England

WRITE OUT LOUD FILMS

Four of the 2021 WOL writers were commissioned to write short films which were produced and hosted online by Exeter Phoenix and shown in person at Exeter Phoenix, Intercom Trust Truro, Intercom Trust Plymouth, Plymouth Pride and other events in 2022/23

QUEER AND THERE ZINE PROJECT

In 2023 Write Out Loud commissioned seven LGBTQ writers and two LGBTQ illustrators to create a zine inspired by the Queer Past, Present and Future of Plymouth, funded by High Street Sparks.
